This part of the training may prove to be more difficult than all of the others. I had my first freak out of this year's training when after running the Dipsea Trail on Sunday May 1st.
As you can see from the profile, this is not an easy run and it is not that fun if you ask me. It did however, elicit feelings of concern when it took me an hour and 48 minutes to run 7.3 miles on that Sunday. What scared me more was how horrible I felt the next day. I was afraid that I was not running enough during my training so I made sure that I hit all of the prescribed runs on my Training Peaks calendar for last week. I completed all of the runs and finished off the week on Saturday with a 9.2 mile run in 1:19:28. That was much better and I did that run with fairly dead legs. I took Sunday off and due to a stomach bug I've been dealing with since last Thursday, I took today, Monday May 9th off as well. Tomorrow I will be back at it with religious fervor. I'm hovering right around 200lbs right now which also has me feeling good as the lighter get the better I anticipate my running performance to be. This past Wednesday was my first Hill repeat workout done after the kids were in bed and although it was tough to walk out of the house and do it, I'm glad I did and within 40 minutes I was done. I'm starting to take the approach that each week is a learning week and that each workout should now be treated as a learning experience as opposed to a mandatory need so that I survive. I feel like I could probably toe the line at an Olympic event now and do fairly well, in fact I would probably post my best time but my goal is to be ready for an Ironman in 7 months!
